About Us:The Couch Depot Story
Rice Roots
A Houston native, Wayne Arthur graduated from Rice University and then spent two decades at MTV Networks creating commercials before founding Kaleide, an award-winning creative agency that has produced campaigns for networks and platforms including ABC, Disney+, and NBC.
From L.A. Chaos...
The idea for Couch Depot came from personal experience. When Wayne was preparing to leave Los Angeles and return to Houston, selling his couch—the single largest item he had to move—turned into an absolute nightmare. Online marketplaces were flooded with endless, automated "Hi, is this available?" messages from potential buyers who lacked any means to actually pick it up. On top of that, he wasted hours dodging sophisticated scammers, online fakes, and flakes who never panned out.
To Houston Problems...
The logistical headache only intensified when he returned to Houston and tried to buy a couch. It was nearly impossible to find a pre-owned couch that was genuinely clean, there was no reliable way to ensure a piece was free of bedbugs, and even if a rare gem was found, getting it home was another logistical nightmare with no delivery options available.
The Couch Depot Solution
Wayne started Couch Depot as a way to make the process completely seamless and secure for both secondhand couch buyers and sellers, taking the anxiety out of the exchange so you can buy and sell with total peace of mind. At the same time, we fulfill the Couch Depot mission of training at-risk youth in real-world skills like furniture revitalization, helping build a more hopeful Houston one young life at a time.
